Lara Adrian- Taken by Midnight (book 8)

At the crossroads of death and desire, a woman tastes a pleasure no mortal is meant to survive . . .  In the frozen Alaskan wilderness, former state trooper Jenna Darrow survives an unspeakable breach of body and soul. But with her narrow escape comes an even greater challenge. For strange changes are taking place within her, as she struggles to understand--and control--a new hunger. To do so, she will seek shelter in the Boston compound of the Order, an ancient race of vampire warriors whose very existence is shrouded in mystery. Perhaps the most mysterious of them all is Brock, a brooding, dark-eyed alpha male whose hands hold the power to comfort, heal . . . and arouse.
As she recovers under Brock's care, Jenna finds herself drawn to the Order's mission: to stop a ruthless enemy and its army of assassins from subjecting Earth to a reign of terror. Yet in spite of their resolve, a purely physical relationship without strings soon binds Brock and Jenna together with a desire fiercer than life and stronger than death itself--until a secret from Brock's past and Jenna's own mortality challenges their forbidden love to the ultimate trial by fire.
My Thoughts: I did enjoy this story I just wish it was longer, Brock is a great male lead, he is so tough but so emotional and understanding and just head over heels in love with Jenna from the first moment he laid eyes on her. It was a refreshing story without a buttload of does he love me, does she love me or can we be together- yes they fight the feelings at first and both really have reasons for not jumping right into a relationship but when they do it is really a great love between them. I think L.A. really captured the heartache that Jenna has been carrying around for four years over the loss of husband and daughter. I would have liked a little more understanding on the Breeds part on what is really happening with Jenna and yes I do understand this is something new that they have never seen before but I felt like I was left hanging about that. I absolutely love how the Breedmates all work together with each other plus with the males and how the males know that they need the females help without being super "cavemanish" and trying to hold them back from all of the dangerous situations that they could get into. Brock knew what he wanted and knew what he thought he could not have but he never denied what he was feeling and that showed in how he treated her (most of the time-lol)
My Rating: 4.5

  1. OH I so loved Brock.. and i was ,mad at Jenna at first didnt understand her running away.. but i was glad when she felt she was apart of them.. I thinking we will get more info about jenna as the next 2 books come out.. but darn thats a long cliff hanger

  2. This whole series is a definite must read. The story is a bit different than the rest because of the situation with Jenna, but still top notch. A lot of unanswered questions as to what will happen are tormenting and make me want to beg for more.

  3. I love this series because all the other characters from previous books are in the new books. I thought this was close to a filler book but I still really liked it. I seem to always be begging for more with this series because it is just so good!! I love her writing!

  4. Yes Brock was a great man. He is so caring. I do believe we will learn more about what's happening to Jenna in the other two books. Sad to see the series coming to end but I want to know what Dragos has planned and I can't wait for Hunter's book.
