Envy- J.R. Ward - Book 3

A man and a woman tread the lines of danger, desire, and deliverance. As the son of a serial killer, homicide detective Thomas "Veck" DelVecchio, Jr., grew up in the shadow of evil. Now, on the knife-edge between civic duty and blind retribution, he atones for the sins of his father- while fighting his inner demons. Assigned to monitor Veck is Internal Affairs officer Sophia Reilly, whose interest in him is both professional and arousingly personal. And Veck and Sophia have another link: Jim Heron, a mysterious stranger with too many answers... to questions that are deadly. When Veck and Sophia are drawn into the ultimate battle between good and evil, their fallen angel savior is the only thing that stands between them and eternal damnation.
Jim is ready to get back out into battle with his two partners and fellow archangels Ad and Eddie after losing the last soul to Devina. So now good and evil are tied one soul a piece. But right when the new battle begins Devina does what demons do and cheats. Which sadly ends Eddies life,( Eddie was my favorite by the way.. not happy) by doing this she knows not only did she take out Eddie but Ad also because they were so close. Now Jim is left alone to help Veck get to his crossroads. But he can only help him get there safely, not help him make the right choice. Veck’s mother was killed by his serial killer father and his whole life he has felt like he’s had a killer locked inside him. When you look down at his shadow he has two. So when he finds himself at a motel holding a bleeding serial killer he figures he killed him. But being a cop he still calls 911. And that’s when internal affairs show up and Officer Reilly. But after investigating the scene and the clues she finds Veck not guilty but he doesn’t believe it yet. Can Jim and/or Reilly convince him he doesn’t have to be evil?
My rating is a 3.5
