Something furry (and I don’t mean my legs)
By Stephanie Beck
Why is body hair a turn off in romance? Anything beyond light stubble on a hero’s dashing face seems to be off taste at the moment, but seriously, I don’t see it!

Maybe I’m partial to the fuzzy guys because I married a man with a perma-sweater and the kind of really great beard that has people asking if he’s Amish. He had to shave it nearly off once for work and I missed his beard. Without it, his face looked…naked…and not the good kind.

The real irony I see in this is the werewolf trend. By definition werewolves are furry! (All those movies with the smooth chested, smooth faced werewolf males are WRONG). I think women with a thing for furry guys started making werewolves sexy. Howling at the moon? Oh no, it’s the luxurious hair and fur a woman wants to sink her fingers in.
I don’t think werewolves need to be comically hairy. Having a werewolf shave six times a day would be ridiculous, but what’s wrong with a hairy chest or a little back fuzz? There is a reason the ‘treasure trail’ on a man is called the ‘treasure trail’…it must lead to good things and if it’s left off in favor of glossy rock hard abs, well, it’s the leading lady’s loss. On the other side of that argument, I find bald or shaved-headed werewolves to be tickle my irony funny bone, (Scott, in Unraveling Midnight, has a shaved head—it goes along with the badass).
Attention to body hair says a lot about a character, werewolf or not. If an adult man doesn’t have a fair amount of hair, or is baby’s butt smooth…well, he most likely had to have focused time, attention and possibly money on that vanity. What does that say about a character? I’ll say it, when a big, strong, badass alpha male has baby smooth anything it makes me picture him painstakingly shaving and then lotioning (you know, like a woman) or I get a mental image of him sitting at a salon waiting for his waxing appointment.
Long story short: I need more fuzzy guys in my romance. They need to be clean and neat and sweet and strong…and furry.

I am a shifter lover. Give me a man that growls then stick me with a fork and call me done! I like a little hair, especially the treasure trail ;) it is only natural. But NO back hair :shudders: thanks for the give away! sstogner1 at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Sharon! I love shifters too...they're just so damn sexy!
DeleteGrass on the playground is a good thing. Hehee!
ReplyDeleteBahahaha, exactly!
DeleteI like it when the chin stubble is just long enough that it isn't scratchy, but just the perfect amount for tickling of the naughty type. And I'm with Sharon...back hair is no good. It's even worse when they shave it and it starts to grow back in. Very creepy feeling. I'm also with Shonna...there should definitely be grass on the playground.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine what back stubble would be like...bleh.
DeleteI love werewolves and a nice built man with same facial and chest hairs. Back hair is nasty.

Thanks for stopping by, Niki. Back hair is just getting no love! I find it to be just a part of life, but to each their sexy own :)
DeleteNOPE to the back hair but hair on the chest Hell Yeah (well not a sweater vest kind of hairy) but some hair on the chest. Let's just say I want my man to look like a man and not some young teenage male who has small patches of hair here and there. Does that make sense to anyone but me?? Happy trail, grass on the playground or a treasure trail- it's ALL good!!
ReplyDeleteSure it makes sense! I'll leave the young teenage males to the young teenage females who don't know any better :) Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI'm Wolf girl lover myself.. BUT i say BUT,, the hair has to be a certain smoothness to it.. a silky feel and feathers the body.. not a sweater and not on shoulders or over upper back..
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you on the smooth factor!
DeleteI have to say I have honestly not thought about this much LOL I just like a person to be what they are and are comfortable with. I do have a slight issue with nose and ear hair, unless it is on the tufts of the wolf. Thank you for the fun post and the awesome giveaway opportunity!

Love werewolves. But I am not a hair fine. Like LT said fine and smooth for me and no back hair and of course have to have the happy trail loll sandracarol123@yahoo.com
DeleteBleh, ear and nose hair, I forgot about those! I'm good with keeping those under wraps!
DeleteI'm with you sister. I like the natural state of things and mourn the shaving of the beard when my husband has had to do it for work too. I guess my tactile senses don't mind the hair in most locations. I'm not big on shaggy brows or nose hairs.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity to win your book. It sounds good.

Shaggy brows and nose hairs fall under basic grooming for me, so they need to be kept tidy! Thanks for stopping by :)
DeleteWell, since I'm a lesbian I hope to Gawd that my woman doesn't have any "furryness" or is it "furriness" (is that even a word?). I mean only in the right spot that is...and even then she doesn't have to be "furry." LOL....
ReplyDeleteHell I work in a Salon as a massage therapist and you will only find a drop of hair on my arms and my brows (and even those are waxed) and all the rest? Smooth as a baby's bottom...Even the underarms!

A little chest hair is hot, but no to the back hair. I figure if I have to shave everything but my arms and head, a guy can do a little manscaping. Plus, if a guy would shave his pitters that would rock my world lol Nothing quite like a hairy pitter decked out in white deorderant flakes.
ReplyDeleteI have say that I like a little hair on the chest and of course the happy or treasure trail *G* I don't like too much hair any where though, except for a head-full of soft, thick hair to run your hands through, or grab hold of, whichever is most appropriate at the time, lol. I definitely think that with all that women have to do with shaving, waxing, etc. that men should do some manscaping too. It is just sexier that way.
ReplyDeleteBut I do have to say that I love looking at the waxed chests on book covers, and imagining licking those pecs and abs, lol.
