Seduced by the Vampire King- Laura Kaye (book 2)

American exchange student Kate Bordessa has fled to Russia to escape her family's hopes that she'll become one of the Proffered, human women who feed and mate with elite vampire warriors. But when she stumbles upon a wounded vampire in the streets of Moscow, she's instinctively driven to protect him--and feels an undeniable spark of desire.

Grieving over the deaths of his brothers, Vampire Warrior King Nikolai Vasilyev has thrown himself into battling his enemies, focused only on vengeance. Until the attack that brought him to Kate. Their sexual attraction explodes into a night of uncontrolled passion--a night that marks them as mates. Is their connection strong enough to convince them to embrace a destiny neither of them was expecting?

ARC Review- I really enjoyed this book, from the first page I was hooked. I actually read the book while at work- I just could not stop reading.  I did not realize when I started the book that it was the second one in a series. Well once I found out it was book 2, I bought book one, which I will start as soon as I finish this review.
Nikolai, is the king of the vampires in Russia, he also doesn't want to be king and doesn't think he deserves the title since his two younger brothers were killed. Nikolai feels responsible for their deaths and now has a death wish of his own. If he is going to die then he will take out as many Soul Eaters as he can, Soul Eaters are the bad vampires that feed from humans and eat their souls as they die. During a battle with a nest of Soul Eaters, Nikolai is wounded and manages to get away, but ends up unconscious in an alley where Kate finds him bleeding out from his wounds.
Kate knows of the existence of vampires, but left that life to go to school aboard.  She feels restless and thinks going for a walk will tire her enough to finally sleep. While heading for the Metro she smells something that pulls her attention into the alley where Nikolai is passed out. She realizes what he is and pulls him to safety but not before he comes awake enough to feed from her. Once his other warriors find him he is still on the brink of death but her blood has helped save him. They take him and Kate back to their home, but when he wakes he still feels a strange pull toward her. With all the signs pointing to them being mates, Nikolai thinks he is not worthy of her so he pushes her away but finally he can't fight it anymore and they make love.  I hope to read of their continuing journey in the next book.
