Entwined - Elisabeth Naughton (book 2)

ZANDER — The most feared of all the Eternal Guardians. It’s rumored he can’t be killed, and he always fights like he has nothing to lose. But as a descendant of the famed hero Achilles, he’s got to have a vulnerability… somewhere.
Forces of daemons are gathering and have broken through the barriers of the Underworld. Now more than ever the Eternal Guardians are needed to protect both their own realm and the humans’. Zander can’t afford to think about what might have been with the bewitching physician he once regarded as his soul mate. But with eternity stretching before him, he also can’t fathom spending his life without the one woman who makes him feel most alive. Perhaps he’s found his weakness, after all…

My Review:
Entwinded is book two of the The Eternal Guardians Series and Zander’s story. The series is about seven warriors who protect their realm as well as the Human realm from threats of the Underworld. Each of the guardians are descended from the seven strongest heroes in all of Greek mythology and each have their story to tell. Theron, Zander, Demetrius, Gryphon, Titus, Cerek, Phineus and Orpheus. (Theron, the leader of the Argonauts, is book one Marked - see previous review).
Zander is the oldest of the Argonauts and believes that he can’t be killed. With eternity in front of him he doesn’t want to continue on without the one woman who makes him whole, his soul mate, who denied him years before. Feeling that he doesn’t have much to live for any longer he pushes the edge of the envelope, endangering himself and the other warriors. Theron tells him to find something to live for or he will have no choice but to remove him from the Argonauts. Theron’s words hit home and Zander sets out to focus on a new goal and accepts a task that no other Argonaut is willing to take on. This gives him a renewed sense of purpose he had been missing while attempting to finally put behind him his soul mate, the physician, Callia, and help save the Kingdom. But does he? Can he?
The chemistry between Callia and Zander is perfect. Their relationship is heartbreaking at times as they long for each other and both their beliefs that nothing can come of it. Their willingness to self sacrifice and “do the right thing” at a cost by not being together, even to their detriment, was strengthened by the past pain and deception. As they unwind the strings of deceit, deception, pain and love we read a wonderfully page turning story.
This combination of old-world gods and modern times rocks! I liked Entwined even more than I did Marked. Zander is a great hero, ultra Alpha male, but he has his vulnerabilities. I believe the true story of the Argonauts begins with book two and oh what a story. The secondary characters are well developed and intriguing, you just don't want to wait to find out what happens next. The story is action packed and exciting, with twists and turns some of which we figure out, but some leaving you with “what? OMG!” Demetrius’s Tempted is the next book and I’m off to read it!

  1. I absolutely LOVE this series.. of course Elisabeth Naughton has yet to write a thing I don't like. Wonder what her grocery lists are like?
