Once Burned- Jeaniene Frost (book 1)

After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: terrifying powers that let her channel electricity and learn a person's darkest secrets through a single touch. Leila is doomed to a life of solitude...until creatures of the night kidnap her, forcing her to reach out with a telepathic distress call to the world's most infamous vampire...
Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all--but whatever you do, don't call him Dracula. Vlad's ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against him - a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, however, passion ignites between them, threatening to consume them both. It will take everything that they are to stop an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames.

OH MY OH MY... first off Vlad is very hot in this book (no doubt) and it was a very interesting story that I don't want to tell too much about because it's a Must Read for everyone. But I will say right off, I am thrilled this is to be a Vlad and Leila spin-off series because "no way" could this be the end. We have a lot more to see and learn in future book about these two wonderful characters. All through the book I keep saying this is 5 rating book, but as it ended I was sure I had skipped pages. Going back, I looked and nope, it was a freaking cliff hanger. Oh man does Jeaniene Frost have me begging for more! To sum up, Leila was struck by lighting and is unable to touch people without the fear of killing them. So she left her family and joined the circus where her abilities would just seem a part of the show. Until she touches a man that had planned to kill his wife and she warned the wife. Shooting her once hidden life into the spotlight, where she didn't want to be, and where now, evil people want to use her to kill Vlad.
Vlad wanted her after she choose to warn him instead of revealing where he was to his enemy. Being picky when it comes to lovers, Vlad knew she would be his, and he told her so. Leila tried to fight the attraction at first. Vlad also told her, he could give her everything but his heart. She thought that was fine, at the time, but never having any experience with men or relationships Leila fell in love with him quickly.
My Rating is 4.5 for having to wait to find out more, but really Rating 5 for the story--- LT

LOVED this entire story, I have loved Vlad's character since we first met him in Cat & Bones books. He's funny and very fond of himself. The banter between him and Leila was fantastic and oh how I enjoyed it when Bones showed up in this book. Vlad thinks he has everything in his life worked out but boy did Leila throw him for a loop. The possessiveness and attraction that he had for her from the first meeting was great to read. Mr. Badass Fire Starting Vamp has just had his ass handed to him by a little human and it is going to only get better with these two. He thinks he has no heart or love to give but I'm guessing he will be able to give her that and so much more.
My Rating: 5 ++   Wendy

  2. I really enjoyed this book to, and it is so weird how Shonna and I "read" this book so differently. She and I discussed it yesterday and it was really amazing the differences on the same scenes in the book. How she wished there were a few lite moments in the mix, I saw the lite moments in Vlad's reactions to Leila- his struggle to open up his heart to her. I could go on but I don't want any spoilers
