Blurb: When duty calls, a warrior answers—no matter the consequences.

A clandestine race of half-dragon, half-humans known as dragon-shifters lives among us. Bastian, leader of the Nightfury dragon clan, is sworn to protect humankind at all costs. For him, honor and duty always come first. When the clan dictates he take a human mate to sire a son, he falters, aware that for a human to birth a dragon-shifter she must die. Myst, the woman given into his care, is the most extraordinary he’s ever met, and though he can’t bear the thought of harming her he is bound by duty.
Myst loves her life in the human world, but Bastian has captured her heart in an instant of electric connection. But Bastian and his warriors are in the middle of a deadly battle with the Razorback dragon-shifters, intent on killing every Nightfury clan member—and the humans they protect—the fate of their world and ours hangs in the balance.

Dawn’s Review: This was the first book I have read about dragon-shifters, I have to say I'm glad I read this book. I enjoyed the hell out of it! I have always read my "tried and true" authors so this was outside my comfort zone. I liked that the story had action (the dragons fighting) and sexual angst and table jumping sex! What else could a woman want (well with me, maybe two women dragons coming together - no pun intended LOL)!

I liked how the dragonkind and human females came together. I had never heard of using the meridian as a way. Usually it's the moon, a tattoo that a female has on her somewhere, constellations, etc. So it was nice to have another avenue open up. I don't always like reading about the same thing. This book set the stage for the next however many books. Lots of questions about the "energy-fusion" between dragonkind and their human women. Will they be able to have female dragonkind now? Will Myst find the answer? Is MacCord a dragonkind and doesn't know it? Is Tania (Myst's BFF) going to be "high-energy" for any of the NightFury? Will they recover the six journals that Ivar stole?
Some things that I thought were frustrating.....flip phones in the age of smartphones; some inconsistencies in the story; the OVERuse of some words and the PRODUCT NAME dropping! LOL!
Like I said lots of action, intrigue and romance/sex, and HEA's! What kind of place will they all find themselves in next? Inquiring minds want to know! That being said....I'm about to start Book Two as soon as I hit send on this review!

LT’s Review: Bastian, is the leader of the Nightfury clan of dragons, I love dragon stories and I loved the fact that they could fly unseen. Being cloaked made it seem more real to me. Because other stories will have you believe that dragons are in this day and age and never seen. I thought the weakness to sunlight was an interesting twist. What I didn't like was the child birthing deaths. But with the need of new dragon warriors I understand the hard choice Bastian has to make. He has to think of his entire race, to protect all humans, over this one human female. Myst, being a nurse, is a blessing to the Nightfuries, but is a little confused about her feelings regarding all of the dragons, especially Bastian. Ivar, I'm not sure how to handle him, I know he's evil but he's so calm, it can fool you. What I wanted to see was all these hot and overly horny dragon men locked down during breeding season. I think that would have been hot.. But I'm weird

Wendy’s Review: Dragons! Hot, sex dragons, what could possibly be wrong with that? Well, nothing really. I was pulled right into this great story about Bastian, the leader of the Nightfury dragons. They are an elite group of men who can shape shift into scaly dragons. Every six months each of them go into, umm I guess it would be considered heat, a deep needing to reproduce. But even after hundreds of years, the dragons still lock themselves away to keep themselves from finding their mate to reproduce with. All the men know that to give birth to a dragonkind the female will die and they don’t want to put the woman through that or to have the heartache themselves of losing their mate. When Bastian finds Myst he knows something is different between them, instead of her just being able to feed him with her energy source, he is able to help her too. What they have is rare and Bastian knows very little about it. With a war going on between his dragons and the evil Razorback dragons he now only wants to protect his mate Myst.

I look forward to reading the next books in this series, I can’t wait to find out the mystery behind Wick and also the whole story behind Forge. Purple is my favorite color- lol

Shonna's Review: Half-human, half-dragon, the Nightfuries look to Bastien as their warrior leader and high commander of the clan. Having vowed to protect the world of humans, the decision to mate by the next coming alignment of the Meridian’s axis was done only out of duty and honor for his race. Yet the moment he held the gaze of those violet eyes, Bastian knew he could never let her go, and hated himself for it.
Myst Munroe finds herself thrown into a situation that exposes a world she never knew existed in front of her eyes. Checking on one of her patients, she discovers pregnant Caroline Van Owen in a pool of blood, with only moments left to make the decision to take and save her unborn baby. Persuaded by the evil Razorback dragon clan, Bastien has only a small window of time to get Myst and the Dragonkind infant out of reach and to safety. Confused and scared, yet drawn and feeling a need to be with Bastien, Myst can not turn her back on the dragon/man that brings everything she ever desired to her soul.
The storyline, fantasy, and romance aspects of this book were a great balance for this refreshingly extraordinary world created by Coreene Calahan. Revealing just enough yet withholding some of the details that leave you begging for just a few more chapters are a great tease. These Dragons are amazing and I can not wait to read the next installment, FURY OF ICE. I really enjoyed it!
