SANDY'S REVIEW: Bastien is pursued by immortals because of his actions from the past. They do not like him is because in the other books, Bastien was the one leading the vampires against the immortals. Being an immortal, he still chose the vampires over his own kind by leading their army. Some of his decisions were mistakes, and because of this he is not liked or trusted. But Melanie sees the love and determination he has for the people he cares about. Melanie is a doctor/scientist that works for the immortals. She is trying to help them with the vampire madness that happens when they become infected. Melanie is also trying to find a way to stop the drugged darts that are causing the immortals and vampires to be sedated. These darts are being used by the mercenaries so they can capture and study a vampire or immortal to do experiments on them and try and create a super soldier. Melanie has a drug that she thinks will help but is afraid to try it. So Bastien tries it on himself and now Melanie has to watch him for any side effects. I will also tell you that there is a big surprise at the end of book and you will have to read it to find out.
