1. Tell us about your new release, Cloaked in Fur.
As a moonwulf, Daciana never expected to fall in love with a human. Hell, she never imagined that she’d abandon her pack, endanger everyone around her, and break the worst rule possible. But she did.
A rogue werewolf
is killing Daciana’s friends, and she sets on capturing the
creature. She’ll do whatever it takes to stop the beast. The
police and her boyfriend, Inspector Connell Lonescu, are starting to
question her involvement in the murders, which is endangering the
pack’s secret existence. But when the pack alpha kidnaps Connell,
revealing the awful truth about the creature and its connection to
the pack, Daciana must choose between saving the man she loves and
saving her pack family from certain death.
2. Can you explain
how this story evolved and came to be published.
I grew up listening
to bedtime Romanian stories that could only be compared to the
Brothers Grimm tales, and ever since then folklore and mythology has
fascinated me. These influences have trickled into my stories, and in
particular Cloaked in Fur, which is based in Transylvania—a place
seeping with legends. Now, when it comes to love, I’m a sucker for
stories about two people from different worlds falling madly in love
and fighting against the odds to stay together. This is the story I
wanted to tell in Cloaked in Fur, showing how far someone was willing
to go to hold onto true love.
3. Do any of your
characters take on characteristics or personalities of people you
know such as friends or family?
Actually, no. The
characters were completely made up… but there are some interesting
people in my life who might inspire future characters.
4. Give us the
scoop how a typical writing day goes for you.
When I’m not
working, it goes something like this:
Wake up and head to my treadmill
with my ipad. Powerwalking and catching up on emails.
After a shower and breakfast, I
make myself a huge cup of tea and settled down with my laptop on the
couch and write my daily quote – about 1000-1500 words – on a
new project I’m working on.
After lunch, I settle down on my
mac at my desk and jump into edits until late afternoon. That’s
when I take some time off and squeeze in some social media
5. Now we want to
hear about you. Tell us about yourself.
Well, I was born
in Romania and moved to Australia with my family at the age of eight.
My dad has always loved writing and is quite well known in Romania,
so I guess from an early age I started to show interest in writing.
Sure, they were only poems or lyrics, but it was a start
It was only when I finished university that I considered trying to
write stories. Fast forward many years later, when I was home sick
from work that I attacked my first novel, and no looking back from
there. Aside from writing, I’m a huge baking fan with
snickerdoodles being my all time favorite cookies.
6. Can you share the recipe with us?
I’d love to share the snickerdoodle recipe I use all the time:
SNICKERDOODLES
- 1 ½ cups caster sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter (227grams)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 ¾ cups of plain flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
Coating:
- 1/3 cup castor sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Method
- Beat sugar and butter until smooth
- Add eggs, one at a time, as beating
- Beat in the vanilla extract
- Add flour, baking powder and salt, into wet mixture, until smooth
- If dough is too soft to roll into a ball, cover and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes or until firm enough to roll into a ball
- Oven should be at 190 degrees Celsius, with fan
- Mix the castor sugar and ground cinnamon (from the coating ingredients) in a bowl.
- Shape the dough into round balls. Roll the balls of dough in the sugar and cinnamon mixture. Place the coated balls on a tray lined with non-stick cooking paper, ensuring there is sufficient space between the balls, as they grow quite a bit
- Once the oven is hot, bake the balls for 10-15 minutes, or until gold at the edges. When first pulled out they will be very soft to the touch, this is fine, since they harden when left to stand for 10 minutes.
7. What is your
favorite mythological creatures and why?
Such a hard one…
I love so many of them, but I’m going to go with the one that’s
been my favorite since I was young. I adore all things mermaids
8. Have you always
wanted to be an author?
When I was young,
I wanted to be all sorts of things from archaeologist to fashion
designer, but it was only later when I started writing stories that
my goal was to become an author.
9. Would you tell
us about some of your up and coming future projects?
Right now, I’m plotting book 2 of
Cloaked in Fur. I’m also half way through a new young adult fantasy
novel, which is made up of three parts about six characters. It is
set a world filled with witches, steampunk monsters and magic, and at
the heart of the story, there’s the struggle to find love.
As a moonwulf, Daciana never expected
to fall in love with a human. Hell, she never imagined that she’d
abandon her pack, endanger everyone around her, and break the worst
rule possible. But she did.
A rogue werewolf is killing Daciana’s
friends, and she sets on capturing the creature. She’ll do
whatever it takes to stop the beast. The police and her boyfriend,
Inspector Connell Lonescu, are starting to question her involvement
in the murders, which is endangering the pack’s secret existence.
But when the pack alpha kidnaps Connell, revealing the awful truth
about the creature and its connection to the pack, Daciana must
choose between saving the man she loves and saving her pack family
from certain death.

ReplyDeleteI usually do not enter these contests, and at one time I did, and have manged to only win one. I am a Reviewer for new and seasoned authors. Several of my reviews have appeared on the published copy I reviewed. Like I said, I usually do not enter contests, however, when I come across a talented author with a great imagination and creative writing, I feel honored to enter and help spread the word about his or her work. I have a lot of respect for the hard work, long hours, and tears an author will put into a book in order to allow the reader escape the every day drudgery and hardships life can present. The reader for a short time, can transport him or her into another world, shutting out everything around them. Thank you for the contest, I wish everyone good luck, but most of all I want others to realize the quality of work I see in your profession and passion.
