This book is a prequel to In Too Deep, Fallon & Brody's story. In this book we get to meet them before they met and fell in love. Jess, Fallon's best friend, makes the mistake of having sex with her alpha and knows it's not a good thing to stick around. Jess knows her actions will cause problems all around because she is a psychic and can see the trouble coming. Taking her fate in her own hands she decides to up and move to Edenton. Knowing the laws of the wolves she contacts the Edenton Alpha first. Jess wants nothing more than to own a bar, she wants to run it how she sees fit and it just happens that the new alpha has one for sale. Jess tells herself she will never make the mistake of sleeping with another alpha but that train of thought leaves her monetarily when she lays eyes on her new alpha, Slatter. He is everything Jess ever wanted in a man but tries to keep a distance because of her past mistakes. Slatter has known love and lost love so he is very hesitant about his new feelings for Jess. When danger comes strolling in Slatter knows he will do anything to keep Jess safe, no matter what it does to his life or his heart.
