What do you do when you have lived thousands of years and you are the oldest and most powerful vampire alive? Mara is the queen of the vampires and after watching her fledgings and family fall in love, she starts to feel lonely and maybe a little jealous. So while resting in her favorite place in Egypt, a human male catches her eye, and she feels a connection to him. They fall for each other quickly.  Kyle can tell Mara is hiding something from him. After pushing and pushing for answers, Mara shows him her secret and he runs away from her calling her a blood sucker. Heartbroken Mara thinks it's time to go to ground for years until she starts to crave human food. Thinking nothing about it because at her age, she can walk in the sun and doesn’t need much blood to live on. She thinks this is just another perk until she runs into one of her first fledgings, Logan, who happens to have loved her for hundreds of years. When Mara feels herself start to feel love she runs from it. But Logan is not taking no for an answer this time and sweeps her off her feet. The cravings for food gets stronger and she starts to eat human food again. This is something that hasn’t happened to any other vampire. She learns soon after that she has lived so long that the vampire gene has lived it's course through her and she is turning back to human, losing all her powers and amazingly pregnant by a man who thinks she’s a blood sucking monster, Kyle.

P.S. This series is very near and dear to me. It was my first paranormal series I  ever read and it got me hooked. But I would wait months and years waiting on new books to come out. Finally I started looking for similar series which is how I found BDB. If my memory serves me right I have been waiting for this book for 8 yrs.  This is also the first author I ever spoken to through email..
