Shonna's review: The elemental magic passed on to all
Feiru first born was thought to create a threat to human society. At the time
of magical maturely a law proclaimed all first-born must leave their families
and live in the AMT (Asylum of Magical Threats). There they would live happily
and bring no harm to the world, or that was what everyone was told. In truth it
was a horrendous prison. Feiru were treated harshly as they were cruelly
experimented on and abused. Few ever escaped, but those that have now hide
quietly as they form an organization known as DEFEND, to right this wrong.
Kiarra Melini, a first-born used as
a lab rat, has lost her elemental power do to experiments with a nullifying formula injected by her captures. Now knowing what is planned for other Feiru and not wanting to live
through anymore torture she fears her blood will bring, she just wants to die. That is until she is rescued by
a man that changes her life more than she ever dreamed
possible.
Jaxon Ward, determined to
retrieve his older bother Garret from the AMT compound, is able to get the much
need information to accomplish this, only after he agrees to also free one other
Feiru first-born during his mission. Desperate to bring his brother home before
it is to late, he complies with the terms, unknowingly flipping his entire world
in a direction he never saw coming.
Shaking my enthusiasm for a
good read. This story fits the bill. I love how Jessie Donavan paces relevant
information throughout this story and maintains various swirls to the
excitement. This gripping journey takes you to a world of danger,
conflict, action, and a steamy romance. I easily became engrossed in the main
characters as well as so many of the compelling sub-characters. A great start
for a new series, book #2 is planned for early 2014. Be sure to watch for it. My Rating 4.5
