Q&A and Giveaway with Teresa Gabelman

1. Tell us about THE PROTECTORS Series.
The Protectors are a group of Vampire Warriors who have for thousands of years protected not only their own race, but humans as well. I want each story to constantly be moving with action, humor, romance and steamy scenes. I try to involve each character into each book so readers don’t lose touch with them and I just can’t let them go.

2. What was the inspiration behind this series?
Okay this is going to sound strange, but when I was young my brother was into Frankenstein, Dracula and the all those good old scary movies. Well, I always thought the 1931 movie Dracula could have been romantic. Yes, I rewrote Dracula in my head at a very early age. HA! Seriously, when I first started writing The Protectors I remembered that moment watching a movie with my brother that really set it forward. Yes, my friends, as a little girl I saw the potential of Dracula being a hot sexy alpha vamp.

3. Tell us what you feel is the best and worst characteristic in Damon, Jared, Duncan, and Sid.
Okay the best is easy. All four are hot, sexy and most definitely alpha vampires…Yum! Damon has anger issues and bad guys literally seem to lose their heads around him. Jared loves practical jokes that gets him in trouble more times than not. Duncan is grumpy because he has to keep the Warrior’s in line, he doesn’t know how to let lose. And Sid, well Sid is a smartass who knows how to push everyone’s button and does frequently.  Man that was a hard question. J

4. Do you like to have conversations with your characters, do they always direct you as to where the story is going or do you get to take the lead?
Oh, it’s sometimes scary. I have actually called my husband Damon. Yes, that is a true story. Thank God he knows my crazy mind and only looked at me funny for a small second before shaking his head with a grin and walking away. Yeah, talk about sweating bullets. Wish I could have seen my face. HA! I always know how I want the story to go before I actually start writing, but once the words start hitting the page I’m shocked at how much changes. I have actually looked up from my computer and out loud said, “Where in the hell did that come from.” That actually happens more than I’d like to admit.

5. What is a typical writing day for you?
I am always writing, whether it’s on my computer or in my head. I wake up, get everyone ready for their day, sit down do any promotional work that needs done, answer emails, respond to readers on my author page or website and then I start writing. I do have a fantastic street team who does so much for me promotional wise, but I still like to get out there myself. I have met so many awesome people and I love it!!!

6. Where has been the strangest place, or most inconvenient, when all of a sudden you had an idea for your work?
This happens to me all the time because I’m constantly thinking up stuff in my head. It never stops. So I would have to say the worst time is when I’m supposed to be paying attention to something and it sure seems like I am paying attention to everyone, but when asked a question I have no clue how to respond because I was absent during the conversation. This usually happens in a group setting, not one on one. So yeah, I’ve had to work on this, but in all honestly it’s the Warrior’s fault. J

7. Do you think you will stick with paranormal romance down the line with future works, or feel you might venture to a different genre? You know I haven’t really thought about it. I do have a romance book already finished that isn’t paranormal that I may release in the near future, but until this series is finished I haven’t put much thought into it. I have too many sexy vamps in my head to think that far ahead yet.

8. Tell us three things about yourself that are not in you bio?
And I thought question #3 was hard. Yikes!! 1.) Ah, okay I hate to shop. Hate it with a passion. 2.) When I was daydreaming in my much younger days (by daydreaming I mean writing I just didn’t know it then) Donny Osmond and Shawn Cassidy were my sexy hero’s. Yes, I said Donny Osmond and Shawn Cassidy, they were hot in the day my friends and if you don’t know who they are then OMG I’m getting freaking old. 3.) I worry about weird things like…will they know who Donny Osmond and Shawn Cassidy are. HA!  And I’ll add one more since this became a little easier as I got going. 4.) I laugh a lot as if you can’t tell by all the HA’s throughout this interview.

9. What are the next three books on your TBR list?
Styxx by Sherrilyn Kenyon, Of Fur and Fangs (A six book bundle I’m a part of and want to read the other authors in the bundle) and If Only by Cherise Sinclair.

10. Can you tell us about what you are working on now or what you have going on in the near future?
Right now I am almost finished with Adam’s Novella which I hope to have out by late March or early April. Then Slade, which I have already started. I have such a crush on Slade and can’t wait to finish his story. I do plan on three books in the series to be released this year. Not sure yet who will be after Slade.

I would like to thank Vampires, Werewolves, & Fairies, Oh My! for this interview and hopefully for a chance to meet new friends. Even though some of the awesome questions made me sweat a little I had a blast! HA!  Thank you so much!!!

Being a wife to a wonderful man who was my high school honey and a mother to a 17 year old son who is my world and working 40 hour weeks takes up a lot of my spare time. Even with all of that I still find time to read my favorite authors and find new ones to give me a break from reality. My love and passion for the written word sent me on a journey 18 years ago, a journey to be able to do what my favorite authors do for me and that is to take someone away from the daily grind and send them into a world where they can root for their hero’s, hate the villain’s, love and well be kind of jealous of heroine, laugh, cry and be bummed when ‘The End’ comes too quickly. 18 years ago I wrote my first book. 17 years ago I had my son and life happened. It’s time to travel the road that I had to detour from for a time and achieve my goal, my dream and hopefully my reality.
Hugs….
Teresa
