1. Tell us about TAKEN and BREAKING THE DARKNESS SERIES?
Taken is the first book in the Breaking the Darkness series. The main character Kasha Alexander finds herself kidnapped. She wakes in a room that is completely void of any light. She doesn't really know how long she has been there or who kidnapped her. She has to endure encounters with with some pretty vile people asking things about her true nature. They demand that she tell them or show them what she is and what kinds of special abilities she possesses. The only problem is that she has no knowledge of any such things. She must search her memories and open her heart and mind to the possibilities of an unthinkable world around her in the hopes to find a way to escape a future that is sure to get worse.
2. How many books are you planning for this series?
Right now I have three full novels planned and two novellas. I am am up in the air about how much further the series will go. Although I have some of the details plotted out, only my characters will be able to dictate how long it will take to get to the end of the story.
3. What inspired you to write it?
I have always wanted to write a book. Growing up I kept journals and wrote books full of poetry. I wish they had all survived my youth. There would have been some great stuff in there but when I moved out on my own I was afraid someone would read them so I tossed them in a dumpster. I know, can you believe it? It pains me to think about it.
After my second son was born and a year had gone by without me tuning my brand new kindle on I finally figured out how easy it was to use and started downloading books. I forgot how much I love to read. And with the new easy of technology I could bring my books with me everywhere and never loose a page.
I think it was May 2012 I read Dannika Darks first book Sterling. Her main character did not know who her father was. It had my mind spinning about all the possibilities of a what it could mean for a character that did not know her true roots. I know what that mystery feel like on a tiny scale since my grandmother was adopted. After a correspondence with her and another amazing author encouraging me to write I decided to go for it.
It took me three months to write the first 10k words, and I had my doubts whether or not I would ever finish it. In Novemeber 2012 I found this thing called NANOWRIMO, National Novel Writing Month where they challenge you to write 50k in 30 days. I wasn't going to do it, but another author I had become friendly with suggested that I set my own word count goal and just do the best I could and not worry about if I could write 50k. So I set my personal goal at 30k by the end of Novemeber my novel was almost finished. I wrapped up the first draft in January and spent the next year revising it and learning everything I could about writing and publishing.
4. You also have two other series, SACRED HEARTS COVEN SERIES, and WINGS OF STONE SERIES. Would you like to tell us a little about each of them?
The Sacred Hearts Coven series is about a coven of witches that practice traditional Wiccan ceremonies to cast love spells. Each book has a story that stands on it's own. They are steamy romance with a hint of paranormal magic.
Wings of Stone series is something I have slowly been working on when things pop into my head. It will be a spin off series from Breaking the Darkness. I am hopping to plan a trip overseas to the location that I I am planning to have the book take place. I don't want to say too much in case things change. I am very excited about this series, but am trying to focus on BTD right now.
5. Tell us three things about yourself that aren’t in you author bio.
I try to meditate twice a day.
I am addicted to caramel swirl coffee from DD and mini Milkyway's
I wish I had a green thumb.
6. What is a typical writing day for you?
When I am in writing mode my daily goal is usually around 2k words. Some days I can get up over 4k, but with two little ones at home it is not always easy. I usually get small chunks in through out the day.
7. We heard you like to cook. What are your top two favorite recipes to fix?
Anything with pasta I make a very mean Mac & Cheese, but it is so fattening I usually only make it once or twice a year for parties. I also love making empanada's and the kids have fun helping to fill them.
8. What do you like to do with your free time?
I am a mom and an author I don't think there is really such a thing as free time. But, when I force me to take me time it usually has to do with yoga and following the teachings of my Guru. I also like to watch movie with my husband and munch on late night snacks after the kids go to sleep.
9. What is your favorite type of scene to write and why?
I was very surprised to find that I enjoyed writing the sex scene in Dark and Stormy. It seemed to write itself. I am thinking that you will see some much more risqué books in my future.
10. What are you reading now and what are the next three on your TBR list?
I am beta reading a book called Shee for an up an coming author Michael Brown.
I have so many books on my TBR I find it overwhelming to chose the next book. But I have been wanting to read Blood from a Stone by Cynthia Lucas, War of the Fae book 3 by Elle Casey, and Forsaken by Kristen Day will probably be my next three, but that can change at any time.
Thank you so much for taking the time interview me. It was a pleasure being a guest on your blog.
