For me, there is as much fun in researching for obscure
tidbits of history as writing in the genre. Aside from medieval (A basketful of
oddities that one!) the Victorian era has always captured my interest, in
particular, Victorian England. And that is usually where I begin when I prepare
to write historical. Add a liberal dash of other genres, say, thriller and
erotic romance, and you have what NYT/USA best seller, Caridad Pineiro says is, “wonderful blend of sexy romance and
sinister mystery”
THE DARK SEDUCTION OF MISS JANE came about after
finding an article on one of my favorite research sites called, Casebook; Jack the Ripper. I shan’t go
into the full scale article but will provide the link so you can enjoy it and
the site on your own. However, when all the world has heard of Mr. Ripper, very
few realize that a few years before
“Jack”—Scotland yard was dealing with another set of mysteries—that of the
Embankment murders or sometimes called, the Thames murder mysteries.
I was intrigued. My mind started clicking off the
possibilities—what if there was an American woman desirous of becoming the
first female investigative reporter? What if one of the top level detectives of
Scotland Yard (part of the elite CID) carried a dark secret of his own that
both drove him in his work and tortured him in his personal life?
This was getting better, I decided.
Add in a Boston engagement scandal that forces the
young woman to the newly formed Writers House in London until things settle for
her family back home, mix in a strange encounter with an illusionist that leads
to a private gentleman’s club, sprinkle in a host of quirky secondary
characters, and blend with the twists and turns of a serial killer’s diary and
you have THE DARK SEDUCTION OF MISS JANE.
An historical erotic thriller.
Over four years (at least) in the making, Jane and I
have been on quite a journey.
I hope you too, will enjoy the journey awaiting you
with Jane and Inspector Randolph!
A scandalous betrayal sets Miss Jane Goodwin on an
unexpected journey to London to pursue her dream of being the first female
investigative journalist, but she soon finds herself in a hotbed of murder and
controversy. Seduced by the passions of a mysterious lover and stalked by a
madman, Jane falls prey to her desires as tensions mount, only to discover a
deadly secret that threatens more than just her trust in men.
Inspector Randolph Mansfield is one of Scotland Yard’s
elite, battling the dark secrets of his past while trying to solve a rash of
grisly murders threatening to mar Queen Victoria’s Jubilee. His respite is the
anonymity he finds in the decadence of a private gentleman’s club, until a
determined American journalist goes undercover in search of her stalker and he
finds the lines between protection and passion blurred. But as tensions heat
and her life is threatened, he must choose whether to reveal his true identity
at the risk of losing both her trust and his career.

My parents believed that women should be independent and capable. What is your thinking along those lines, Mr. Hampton?” she asked, purposely goading him.
He emitted a long-suffering sigh. “I do find a capable woman refreshing, Miss Goodwin. I have no qualms with a woman who wishes to be independent and, moreover, isn't afraid to speak her mind.”
She slid him a glance. “Indeed, I think your aunt is correct. You are a charmer.”
He shrugged. “A woman can profess to be independent in many things, but there are still times when a man’s involvement is necessary.”
“That is quite enough, Wesley Hampton,” his aunt spoke.
“Name one,” Jane fired back as she crossed her arms.
“Jane!” Isabella turned in her chair and pinned Jane with a shocked expression.Wesley’s mouth curled into a wicked smile. He lifted his brow and set down his cup. “A conversation left to another day

Shonna's review: Tall, beautiful, and intelligent, Jane Goodwin stands strong with a willful determination few women in 1887 are willing to outwardly express. Not afraid to seek what she wants, circumstances take her abroad to begin a new adventure across the ocean. A new woman’s writing group in London is being formulated and sparks Jane’s journalistic interest to be a part of it. Staying at Writers House proves to be even more than Jane ever imagined, steering her into a whirlwind of mystery, intense seductive excitement, and a serial murderer that now targets her as the next victim.
Inspector Randolph Mansfield of The Criminal Investigation Department excels at his job and has quickly climbed the ladder of success. Thick black hair, with long legs, dark eyes, and broad shoulders, Randolph harbors a need in his heart to find revenge for a past he can’t change. Carrying tortured demons in his mind, he seeks dark deviations to ease a side of him that lurks in his soul and gives him no rest. As an anonymous member to the exclusive McFarland Manor, few know what goes on behind the walls. Here Randolph experiences release for his promiscuous pleasures and decadent sexual needs. Unable to stop thinking about the new American woman nosing around in his investigation, Randolph, hopes to bluff her back across the line she keeps stepping over. Yet when his plan fails, all is revealed and a fiery passion is unleashed between the two of them.
I was immensely captured by the writing talent that Amanda McIntyre has. Oh how I enjoyed reading this story! So full of striking characters and a twisting plot, I couldn't read it fast enough but was sad when I finished. A wonderful read.
My rating: 5

ReplyDeleteI loved the bit that Amanda wrote about how this book came to be...I really am intrigued by how authors get their ideas for stories. I haven't the imagination to write...so I read to fire my imagination and I really get "into" a well-written story, especially a romantic suspense. Thanks so much for this post and interview! I'm practically salivating to get this newest release of Amanda's. :-) jdh2690@gmail.com
