Author: Cardeno C.
Book Name: McFarland's Farm
Series: Hope #1
Release Date: Sept. 10, 2014
Blurb: Wealthy, attractive Lucas Reika treats life like a party, moving from bar to bar and man to man. Thumbing his nose at his restaurateur father's demand that he earn his keep, Lucas instead seduces a valued employee in the kitchen of their flagship restaurant, earning himself an ultimatum: lose access to his father's money or stay in the middle of nowhere with a man he has secretly lusted over from afar.
Quiet, hard-working Jared McFarland loves his farm on the outskirts of Hope, Arizona, but he aches to have someone to come home to at the end of the day. Jared agrees to take in his longtime crush as a favor. But when Lucas invades his heart in addition to his space, Jared has to decide how much of himself he's willing to risk and figure out if he can offer Lucas enough to keep him after his father's punishment is over.

1. Tell us the inspiration behind your new series, Hope, and the first installment, McFarland’s Farm.
CC: With the Hope series, I want to write sweet, light, contemporary novellas that readers can pick up and read during busy times. Most of my work to date has been in the form of novels, but I hear from readers that sometimes they're too busy to read a full-length novel in one shot and they hate to stop midway so they look for novellas. That inspired me to come up with a series that would meet that reader need. This series in particular takes place in the fictional town of Hope. Each standalone novella will feature a different couple in town and through the books, readers will learn more about the unique town and the wonderful people who reside in it.
2. Have you ever thought about writing a story that didn’t have the best happy-ever-after ending?
CC: I started writing with the goal of providing happy, uplifting stories to brighten people's days and give them hope. There's nothing I like more than hearing I made a reader feel happy. So in answer to the question, nope, I've never had the urge to write a story with anything other than a strong HEA.
3. What is a typical writing day for you?
CC: My writing days vary depending on what else is vying for my attention. When my day job is busy, I sometimes don't have time to write for days. But then other times, I get in a groove and I write well into the night.
4. Where is the strangest place you have been when “DING” an idea pops into your head for your writing?
CC: Oh, I get ideas everywhere and all the time. I don't know if it's strange or not, but the place I get the best ideas for stories and characters is the shower. Excellent thinking time there with limited distractions.
5. Do you have conversations with your characters?
CC: I don't have conversations with my characters, but I spend a lot of time thinking about who they are and the conversations they have with each other and those people around them. Sometimes those conversations make me laugh and sometimes they have my diving for a pen to take notes.
6. Name a place you would like to go to on vacation.
CC: There are many, many places I'd like to see but if I had to choose one right now, I'd say Canada. I've heard amazing things about Victoria, Montreal, Quebec City, and other places. I'd love to spend time doing the touristy things and learning about those cities.
7. What would you consider the ultimate romantic date/evening?
CC: I'm not the adventurous types, so a simple dinner with the chance to talk and laugh and eat a good meal would be a great time in my book.
About the Author: Cardeno C. - CC to friends - is a hopeless romantic who wants to add a lot of happiness and a few "awwws" into a reader's day. Writing is a nice break from real life as a corporate type and volunteer work with gay rights organizations. Cardeno's stories range from sweet to intense, contemporary to paranormal, long to short, but they always include strong relationships and walks into the happily-ever-after sunset.
Cardeno's Home, Family, and Mates series have received awards from Love Romances and More Golden Roses, Rainbow Awards, the Goodreads M/Romance Group, and various reviewers. But even more special to CC are heartfelt reactions from readers, like, "You bring joy and love and make it part of the every day."
