Rachel’s name changed several times. The choice that almost won was Tessa.
Bastien’s name is a nod to one of the movies from my childhood, The Neverending Story.
I started writing Rising Shadows in 2008 when my husband was deployed with the USAF and I was pregnant with my second child. It sat on waiting to be finished until after my third child was a year old.

There was never a plan to write a novella between Rising Shadows and A Scarlet Fury. After overwhelming feedback from readers unhappy with a mild cliffhanger regarding a secondary character I decided not to leave anyone in suspense.
The same character everyone was so upset over wasn’t one I expected people to become attached to. I was taken by surprise. The reaction from readers changed the trajectory of the whole series to give build a better story for that character.
It’s not the full story for this particular couple.

Bridget Blackwood is a hopeless romantic and a fan of happily ever after. She grew up in East Texas where she met and married her high school sweetheart. Together they moved to Southern Illinois, just across the river from St. Louis. It's been home for over a decade now. Three kids, two ferrets, four cats, and one pug later they couldn’t be happier.
