A Sizzling WTF Moment hosted by
Book Lovers 4Ever
“What’s going on up there, Pup?” Javier had never seen Kyle quite as pensive as he’d been since Christmas.
Pale blue eyes widened for a moment and Javier knew that was in reaction to his use of the endearment Saul had given their lover. The first time he risked using it, Javier held his breath waiting for their reaction. Saul had simply smiled knowingly, as if he’d been waiting for it, while Kyle had responded with a combination of concern and excitement.
After that moment of uncertainty, Kyle seemed to settle into a kind of peace. Javier couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but their lover was more…malleable, almost submissive to both of them. That response made him feel ten feet tall. Javier never thought of himself as dominant, but he couldn’t deny that having Kyle look to him the same way he looked to Saul was a huge confidence booster.
Nor, if he were being completely honest, could he deny how turned on he got watching Kyle kneel on the floor at his feet right there in the living room where anyone could see. “Sorry, Javi, was I drifting again?”
Giving into the temptation, Javier stroked Kyle’s hair and tugged a little to keep that head from bowing. It was yet another in the growing list of little ways Kyle was showing that submission, but in this moment Javier was more concerned with his thoughts. “Again and again. You know you can tell us anything, right?”
Saul wasn’t in the room, but Javier had no problem speaking on his behalf. Especially to Kyle. “Of course. I’ve been thinking about the outreach center and what walking away would really mean. We’re doing good work there—work that’s fulfilling and satisfying.”
“Work that’s also exhausting and painful,” Javier pointed out. There was no doubt that the work being done at the Bennett House was good and necessary, or that helping people was fulfilling and satisfying.
Javier also saw the price Kyle and Davin paid for helping others. Kyle was rarely home at a decent hour and when he did come home he was usually emotional wrung out, physically exhausted, or both. He’d seen his lover come home with bruises, held him as he shed buckets of tears, and often wondered what crime Kyle thought he committed that he was trying to atone for.
“Yes, those things too.” Kyle grinned and nuzzled against his palm, his pink tongue darting out in little teasing licks. “I really thought that was my calling, but it’s not.”
Javier forced his gaze from Kyle’s mouth long enough to ask, “Are you feeling lost? You seemed so excited to be making the change.”
“I suppose what I’m feeling is overwhelmed with the possibilities and frustrated with the wait.” Kyle’s grin grew and he leaned forward in a way that pushed his ass out. “I would never leave until the right replacement could be found, but I can’t help imagining what the future holds. Do you know how many dates I’ve missed since we got together?”
A lot. There was no way to count how many times Kyle had called at the last minute to say he couldn’t meet them for dinner or a movie or whatever the plans were because there was an emergency at the center. “No, but once was too many times.”
“I know and I’m sorry.” Kyle ducked his head. “Once this transition happens, things will be better.”
“Kyle, do you think things are bad?” Javier stared down at that bowed head and felt a surge of panic. Kyle always seemed so strong and capable, and he was so smart. All things Javier never felt about himself. How could he reassure Kyle of their relationship when he himself never felt sure about anything?
A strong hand settled on his shoulder and Javier glanced up to see that Saul had joined them. Javier didn’t know how much he heard, but he felt instantly better. That gaze promised everything would be all right and when Saul’s hand joined his on Kyle’s head, he felt their lover’s whole body go lax.
Saul eased onto the couch beside him and nodded toward Kyle as if encouraging him to continue taking the lead. Javier just stared back. First Kyle hints that he thinks things aren’t good and now Saul was ceding control? Had the world gone mad?
When he didn’t say anything after a few minutes, Saul sighed. “You were doing just fine until I came in. Do you need me to leave?”
Javier couldn’t have been more shocked if Saul had punched him and by the way Kyle’s head snapped up, he knew they were thinking the same thing. Who the hell was this imposter and where the hell was their real Master?

ReplyDeleteThank you. xx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the update. I felt there is so much more that could be added to their story and I would be very excited to see a full book down the line regarding this trio. The little snippet above seems to indicate that Javi is coming into his own. I hope other readers feel as I do - it would be awesome to see them as meld into a life of love together. I love, love - love this series - I reread them all over and over but the story of Javi - Saul and Kyle is one I reach for the most.
ReplyDeleteKudos and best wishes.
Thank you all so much for the wonderful feedback. It's definitely time to show how far this trio has come. The road was never going to be easy, but I think you'll fall in love all over again.
