Blurb: Seth finds himself alone at an abandoned train station, with no idea what happened, or how he got there. He boards a train, only to discover it’s a special express transporting the recently deceased to their final destination. The conductor tells him he’s having a near-death experience. Seth wonders if it has something to do with his violent boyfriend, but that doesn't matter. All that matters is getting the hell off the train before he actually dies. But when he spots his best friend and secret crush among the traveling dead, the urge to leave fades...
Review: "When Death Isn't The End", well honestly I don't know where to go from there. It's taken me two days to write this review even though I could not get this book out of my head. I actually talked to several people about it while I was reading it and once I was finished. This one single book will stick with me for awhile. It made me think about life now and life once I'm gone. Ms. Phoenix wrote something that was not just about the love the two main characters have/had for each other but about the reality of expressing those feelings every day to those we love, don't hold back what you feel, don't hold back what needs to make you happy. What if it is true? What if there is a place we go like the big black train that Seth and Carter end up on? What if a near-death experience can change everything? What if the one person you truly love is actually waiting for you on the other side?
I can admit when I first started reading the book I was thinking "what did I get myself into, what is going on?", but the more I read the more I was yanked in, not just pulled in but yanked in with a pull so hard I could not put the book down. I finally had to close my Kindle and get some sleep but I still thought about the book the whole next day at work.
So many things intrigued me,... the truth that Carter could no longer hold back, the guilt he felt for not being honest while he was alive, the desperation in Seth's letters needing help and the absolute love they both felt for each other.
By the end of this book I was crying, not full on ugly crying but pretty darn close.
