My skin tingled, and I smiled as strong arms gently wrapped around my waist. I rested my head back against Nic’s chest, inhaling his scent.
“Good day, my love,” he breathed over my head.
“Mmm. Good day.” I turned to face him and his lips locked with mine in a long, passionate kiss. The kiss grew deeper and I gripped his hair tightly. He growled and bit my lip, his fangs drawing blood. I pulled away and looked at him while slowly sucking the blood from my lip. Then my eyes darkened and I sent him a message: Run.
He raced through the stable doors and I counted to twenty before I gave chase, following his scent in the air. I sped through the village, passing old women pushing carts of fruit and men shoveling cow dung. Once I was in the forest and on a familiar path, I slowed down. Finding his scent again, my arms pumped by my sides as I continued to pursue him. A light coat of sweat began to form on my forehead.
I love the chase. He wasn’t always the prey, but today I was feeling a little dominant. I caught the scent of fresh water, and could hear it flowing smoothly just below the small cliff ahead. Jumping over it, I landed in a stream. I took off running again and slowed to a jog when I entered the clearing. Our clearing. This place would always be dear to me; it was in this field of jasmine that Nic had vowed to always be by my side.
My skin tingled and I could sense that he was close by; I looked around. There. He walked forward from the other side of the clearing and I charged at him. As I neared him, Nic made no move. In two steps, I was upon him…and then through him. I faltered, landing on the ground. In that same instant, I felt the heat of a body pressing me down. He flipped me over and I stared into his eyes. All fight left me then.

She earned her degree in criminal justice from Temple University, is the founder of Laughter and Lemonade: a project that focuses on motivational posters for those experiencing a chronic illness, and co-founder of #26forTiera: a foundation that provides financial resources to single parents battling life-threatening illnesses.
A creator of poems and short-stories for many years, Tiera challenged herself by leaping into the world of novels. Having recently survived a battle with cancer, Tiera decided to use her writing to entertain and motivate her readers.
